Isaiah 7:10-16; Romans 1:1-7; Matthew 1:18-25.
Introduction
Impossibilities basically underline limitations that one has. Things that go beyond one's capabilities. Generally, in our understanding as humans, we have discovered levels of limits and other totally impossible actions. In any case, when those limits are accomplished by individuals or groups, it is deemed a record has been set; "Guinness Book of Records." Meanwhile, there are identified and unidentified acts that are beyond any human accomplishment; walking on the sea, feeding 5000 men with 5 loaves and 2 fishes, speaking to a stormy wave to calm down, turning water into wine without any scientific procedures, passing through a wall, etc. Things of this nature draw our attention to the supernatural.
In today's sermonette, we are exploring the profound and comforting truth that indicates to us that, God is beyond every limitation of humanity for "Nothing is impossible with God." Let us delve into the Bible with the three readings given to us to discover the unwavering promise of God's omnipotence.
In Isaiah 7, we witness the setting of a troubled time for the people of Judah. Amidst uncertainty and fear, God extends a reassuring promise through the prophet Isaiah. In verse 14, the prophecy declares, "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." This divine proclamation foretells the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ, emphasizing that even in the face of daunting circumstances, God's plans will prevail.
God promised to bring deliverance through a humanly impossible means, the conception of a virgin. When human thinking ends, the works of the God of all possibilities become real to humanity.
The Gospel of Matthew unveils the miraculous story of the incarnation, presenting Joseph's dilemma upon discovering Mary's unexpected pregnancy. In verse 20, the angel reassures Joseph, saying, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit." This narrative epitomizes the truth that with God, the impossible becomes possible. Mary, a virgin, conceives by the Holy Spirit, showcasing the divine intervention that surpasses human understanding.
As we turn to the book of Romans, the apostle Paul reinforces the omnipotence of God through the proclamation of the gospel. In verses 2-4, Paul writes, "the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power." Here, we find the assurance that God's promises are fulfilled in Christ, demonstrating the boundless power inherent in the message of salvation.
Embracing the Promise
As we reflect on these passages, let us internalize the central theme: "Nothing is impossible with God." In our lives, we encounter challenges that seem insurmountable and circumstances that test our faith. Some situations present the only option of evil and death, but with God, there are uncountable possibilities. What is limited to you does not limit God.
What are your challenges and troubles? What are the problems that seem to have no solution? Come to Jesus today, put Him in charge of your entire life, and see the miracles that come after.
The promise of God's omnipotence remains steadfast. Just as He fulfilled His promise through the birth of Jesus, He continues to work wonders in our lives.
Beloved, let us anchor our faith in the certainty that God's power transcends our limitations. When doubts arise and obstacles seem insurmountable, let us turn to the Word of God, finding solace in the truth that His promises endure. With God, there is no situation too dire, no obstacle too great, for His power knows no bounds.
Conclusion
May the words of Isaiah, the teachings of Paul, and the account of Matthew resonate in our hearts, reinforcing the unshakable truth: "Nothing is impossible with God." Let this assurance guide us, inspire us, and strengthen our faith as we navigate the journey of life with the unwavering confidence that our God is mighty and His promises are true.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.
